Request moderator's attention.
Written by DarwinSurvivor the 21 Dec 11 at 09:04. New
Currently there is only a short list of "flags" a user can use to get a moderator's attention. Many times the poster of an idea will update their idea (to better conform to guidelines), but they will need to e-mail a moderator to tell them the idea has been updated. There currently does not exist a way for a user to ask a moderator to look into something without contact a specific moderator via e-mail. This means that not only do moderators not know of changes to ideas, disputes over status changes, etc, but if they DO use e-mail, only that one moderator is made aware of the need for review, not the team.

Solution #1: Allow a "moderator attention requested" tag on comments.
Written by DarwinSurvivor the 21 Dec 11 at 09:04.
The simplest solution I can think of is to have a checkbox next to the comment box that alerts the moderator team (via rss/e-mail/special page/whatever) that there is something in that comment that the moderators should read.

Solution #1: Notepad++ Allow breaking the toolbar into two or more rows.
Written by latency the 18 Nov 11 at 12:55.
Notepad++ An option to allow the toolbar to break into two or more rows depending on the window size so that all options in the toolbar are visible.

Maybe even let the user create several custom toolbars that can be stacked on each other.

QuestionTorrent

I think it would be great to have a question-based version of IdeaTorrent.

Solution #1: QuestionTorrent
Written by wiedzmin the 15 May 11 at 03:10.
You can call it QuestionTorrent and it can be basically the same application, except instead of submitting, ranking and implementing ideas, it would be about asking, answering and rating questions. I would love to have this for my online community.

Order of solutions
Written by Oxwivi the 20 Oct 10 at 15:27. New
Solutions are displayed in the order of submission. This prevents the newer solutions to be immediately viewed, and subsequently seen by less users than the older solutions.

Solution #1: Display newer solutions first and the total number of solutions
Written by Oxwivi the 20 Oct 10 at 15:27.
Showing the newer solutions submitted at the beginning will bring more attention to them. In addition the total number of solutions should be displayed so the voters are informed how many more solutions are there, so they may check them out.

Votes for a given solution influences others

The displayed votes influences the subsequent voters and could drastically change what the actual result could have been.

Hiding the votes would protect further voters from influencing their choice to get a more accurate result.

revert to independent ideas

revert to independent ideas.
it was in ubuntu brainstorm before january 2009.
independent ideas instead of solutions bunched to "rationales".

Other Users Can See Demoted Ideas
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 13:08. New
Anyone with an account can log in, click on a user's name and view ideas that that particular user has promoted/demoted. This decreases the level of anonymity that some might prefer, and may cause conflicts if one user sees that another has demoted his/her idea.

Solution #1: Add Setting to Show/Hide Ideas Promoted/Demoted
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 13:08.
Users should have the option of allowing others to see the ideas that they have promoted/demoted. In each users dashboard there could be an option to show/hide ideas that he/she has promoted or demoted. I suggest that the options be independent for promoted and demoted. That way the user can choose to show one and hide the other, show both or hide both. Anonymity may promote more honesty.

Allow Editing Title Before Moderator Approval
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 12:55. New
Currently only the Idea Rational Description can be edited before an idea receives approval. I submitted an idea on a site's IdeaTorrent and later regretted the title that I chose.

Name Change may increase appeal
Written by sakaa the 6 Jul 10 at 02:12. New
Great idea !. I have thought about a similar concept and I really believe in the utility of a service like this. I think it could be implemented more and I really feel like it should.

But I think the name is a little obstructive. I think too many people have too specific connotations they associate with the word torrent. I see the idea of having a stream or torrent as a visual canvas for what this service does.

But I think it could maybe a little better.

Solution #2: Normal Users May Be Inclined to Return for Ideas from Sandbox
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 13:17.
I think that normal users should be able to see the sandbox. If they find an idea in there that they like, they may keep returning to check if that specific idea has been approved so they can vote on it. I just think it allows ideas to be better advertised. Chances are more users will contribute to ideas if they can see it as soon as it is submitted.

Ineffective implementation management
Written by shnatsel the 27 May 10 at 22:30. New
As I scroll through Ubuntu Brainstorm, I see lots of solutions which are already implemented, but since they're not marked as implemented, they are still being discussed, voted for etc. - they simply waste effort of the community.

Solution #1: Implement solutions, solve rationale
Written by shnatsel the 27 May 10 at 22:30.
First of all, that's the most natural way. People implement solutions to solve the problem described in ideas rationale. When enough solutions are implemented, the problem is solved. Second, it solves the effort wasting problem.

IdeaTorrent sites are separate from the rest of the web
Written by bitplane the 6 May 10 at 06:40. New
People want to share their ideas, tell their friends about them.

Projects want people to discuss the ideas, post new solutions and vote on the suggestions.

It would be nice to have some mechanism to suck users in from other places when ideas are posted or voted on.

Solution #1: Add semantics using microformats and RSS feeds
Written by bitplane the 6 May 10 at 06:40.
XFN's identity tag can be used to declare ownership of a profile page, a rel=me link (or rel="nofollow me" to thwart spammers) back to the user's home page would declare ownership of the page. rel="me" links between sub-pages of the profile would allow all pages to become one big profile.

http://gmpg.org/xfn/11

Then provide an Atom and/or RSS feed on each user page (comments, problems, solutions, ++votes, --votes) which can be followed by visitors. Atom would be best as it has author tags.

This information could then be fed into social networking and aggregating tools like Google Buzz, Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader and so on.

Tags automatically removed.
Written by Rohaq the 19 Apr 10 at 19:01. New
It looks like any kind of tags entered are automatically removed; I wanted to insert some XML into the Notepad++ IdeaTorrent, as an example on how to improve their syntax highlighting system, however IdeaTorrent swallowed it up, meaning I had to manually enter their HTML entities.

Solution #1: Convert tags to HTML entities
Written by Rohaq the 19 Apr 10 at 19:01.
I suggest converting all ampersands into & and < and > converted into their HTML entities < and > to prevent display errors.

Additionally, any future versions should check for current entries from old versions where people have used HTML entities to bypass this, and convert them accordingly to prevent display errors.

Additionally, some further syntax to allow for specific formatting (i.e. bold, italic tags, code tags, etc.) would be welcomed, as they could be used to better display text.

Fast enetering of ideas: 5 minutes waiting problem or import/export
Written by fivetrees the 16 Apr 10 at 23:56. New
There is urgent need to import thousands of ideas from ideas campaign

or to put hundreds manually.

If trying to type manually I (administrator) can't do this fast, because even admin has no right to do this without 5 minutes interval

Solution #1: Intergrate Text Formating/Linking
Written by ChrisB the 28 Feb 10 at 21:35.
This should be implemented in the comments section and rational/solution description. Most forums have this feature, IdeaTorrent should have it too.

If you don't know what I am talking about have a look at posting on forums, like the ubuntu forums. When you post you have options above the text box to add links, images and format text (bold, lists, etc...).

Solution #1: Provide a Virtual Machine of Idea Torrent
Written by carchrae the 17 Dec 09 at 20:09.
It would be nice to download a working virtual machine (VirtualBox and similar) of a complete Idea Torrent server.

The virtual machine would contain the SQL server, Drupal installation, and a default Idea Torrent configuration.

This would be useful for people to quickly evaluate the software, and perhaps, even allow users to run it in production.

Solution #1: Create tabled ideas classification
Written by peterro the 25 Nov 09 at 16:44.
Just the currently implemented classes on this ideatorrent are 'popular', 'ideas in development', and 'implemented ideas'. This would create a new class called 'tabled ideas'. This would be to weed out ideas that won't be implemented for whatever reason but not just delete them. The ideas could then be moved back out into the regular population at some future point as well.

Allow comments on solutions (not just ideas)
Written by tehalynn the 23 Nov 09 at 01:29. New
Sometimes you want to comment on a specific solution. As far as I know, the only way to do this now is to mention a solution when commenting on the idea.

Solution #1: Add a comments section below each solution
Written by tehalynn the 23 Nov 09 at 01:29.
On the idea page (where you can see comments and add your own), show a comments section beneath each solution. The comments section starts collapsed, saying "4 comments on this solution" and possibly "add a comment". These links expand the solution's comments section, showing the comments and allowing you to add one.

Limit the Number of Votes for Users
Written by eckes the 16 Nov 09 at 10:21. New
In order to allow a better priorisation in a closed community it is better to limit the number of votes each user has, so she really picks only the most important problems. It would also be good to be able to add 1-3 votes per user.

Solution #1: Give Users a Vote budget
Written by eckes the 16 Nov 09 at 10:21.
Each user can optionally be limited by a group setting to number of votes she has available. She can always remove votes from one idea to move them to others, or she gets them back once an idea is implemented. It is good to give 1-3 votes to an idea. A method to granting bonus votes to users is also a needed addition.

This can also be used to limit suggestions a user can make, if he always has to give at least one vote to his own initial ideas.

Solution #2: Solution #1, but you vote for a problem, not a solution
Written by tehalynn the 22 Nov 09 at 23:15.
This may be what solution #1 was saying; it wasn't entirely clear to me.

Give users "priority votes" or something that they can use to say which problem they think is the highest priority. Each user has a limited number of priority votes as in solution #1. These votes are different from the unlimited votes you can make on solutions.
