Limit the Number of Votes for Users
Written by eckes the 16 Nov 09 at 10:21. New
In order to allow a better priorisation in a closed community it is better to limit the number of votes each user has, so she really picks only the most important problems. It would also be good to be able to add 1-3 votes per user.

Solution #1: Give Users a Vote budget
Written by eckes the 16 Nov 09 at 10:21.
Each user can optionally be limited by a group setting to number of votes she has available. She can always remove votes from one idea to move them to others, or she gets them back once an idea is implemented. It is good to give 1-3 votes to an idea. A method to granting bonus votes to users is also a needed addition.

This can also be used to limit suggestions a user can make, if he always has to give at least one vote to his own initial ideas.

Solution #2: Solution #1, but you vote for a problem, not a solution
Written by tehalynn the 22 Nov 09 at 23:15.
This may be what solution #1 was saying; it wasn't entirely clear to me.

Give users "priority votes" or something that they can use to say which problem they think is the highest priority. Each user has a limited number of priority votes as in solution #1. These votes are different from the unlimited votes you can make on solutions.

Integrate admin interface into Drupal admin
Written by Francis the 18 Aug 09 at 21:15. New
Most (if not all) drupal modules can be managed from the Drupal admin interface. But Ideatorrent has to be managed from a different admin.

Solution #1: Integrate into main Drupal admin
Written by Francis the 18 Aug 09 at 21:15.
Place it in a section called Ideatorrent. You can just click on a link in the admin panel under that section. Hope this makes it easier to manage.

Order of solutions
Written by Oxwivi the 20 Oct 10 at 15:27. New
Solutions are displayed in the order of submission. This prevents the newer solutions to be immediately viewed, and subsequently seen by less users than the older solutions.

Solution #1: Display newer solutions first and the total number of solutions
Written by Oxwivi the 20 Oct 10 at 15:27.
Showing the newer solutions submitted at the beginning will bring more attention to them. In addition the total number of solutions should be displayed so the voters are informed how many more solutions are there, so they may check them out.

It is difficult for users to evaluate Idea Torrent

It is not trivial to set up Idea Torrent.

Solution #1: Provide a Virtual Machine of Idea Torrent
Written by carchrae the 17 Dec 09 at 20:09.
It would be nice to download a working virtual machine (VirtualBox and similar) of a complete Idea Torrent server.

The virtual machine would contain the SQL server, Drupal installation, and a default Idea Torrent configuration.

This would be useful for people to quickly evaluate the software, and perhaps, even allow users to run it in production.

Other Users Can See Demoted Ideas
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 13:08. New
Anyone with an account can log in, click on a user's name and view ideas that that particular user has promoted/demoted. This decreases the level of anonymity that some might prefer, and may cause conflicts if one user sees that another has demoted his/her idea.

Solution #1: Add Setting to Show/Hide Ideas Promoted/Demoted
Written by Deluge the 12 Jul 10 at 13:08.
Users should have the option of allowing others to see the ideas that they have promoted/demoted. In each users dashboard there could be an option to show/hide ideas that he/she has promoted or demoted. I suggest that the options be independent for promoted and demoted. That way the user can choose to show one and hide the other, show both or hide both. Anonymity may promote more honesty.

Voting oddity

When anonymous users (unauthenticated) try to vote on an idea, their votes are accepted but not saved.

Solution #1: Don't allow voting for unauthenticated users
Written by peterro the 3 Aug 09 at 22:16.
While the end result of not saving unauthenticated votes is correct, it can be confusing to users who see their votes applied but then removed if they return to the same 'idea'.

Possibly either don't allow unauthenticated voting at all (preferred) and/or warn unauthenticated users that their votes won't count.

Save Replacings in Notepad++
Written by Furtano the 16 Sep 09 at 08:34. New
Save the different entered expressions in "Replace", Raplacing e.g. if you work with regular expressions. And then define a shortkey for them, so you can apply the different replacings very easy and productive. Would be very cool !

Thanks,
Furtano

Donate via PayPal to up your idea
Written by thom.mp the 10 Apr 09 at 04:26. New
This will allow for all sorts of new business models in open source. You can literally buy influence over certain open source projects. So if a company really wants a certain feature, they pay the developers to implement that idea over others. This would definitely not be for every project, but for some, it would be a godsend of a revenue stream. This is a really radical idea so please discuss.

Solution #1: PayPal integration
Written by thom.mp the 10 Apr 09 at 04:26.
Allow users to pay a cent for a vote. This feature will obviously be optional, and can be turned off at different levels. (It's not used at all, it's used but the ideas are in a different pool from the non-commercial ones, it's used but the user controls whether or not they view commercial and non-commercial ideas together, etc.)

Notepad++ An option to allow the toolbar to break into two or more rows depending on the window size so that all options in the toolbar are visible.

Maybe even let the user create several custom toolbars that can be stacked on each other.

Tags automatically removed.
Written by Rohaq the 19 Apr 10 at 19:01. New
It looks like any kind of tags entered are automatically removed; I wanted to insert some XML into the Notepad++ IdeaTorrent, as an example on how to improve their syntax highlighting system, however IdeaTorrent swallowed it up, meaning I had to manually enter their HTML entities.

Solution #1: Convert tags to HTML entities
Written by Rohaq the 19 Apr 10 at 19:01.
I suggest converting all ampersands into & and < and > converted into their HTML entities < and > to prevent display errors.

Additionally, any future versions should check for current entries from old versions where people have used HTML entities to bypass this, and convert them accordingly to prevent display errors.

Additionally, some further syntax to allow for specific formatting (i.e. bold, italic tags, code tags, etc.) would be welcomed, as they could be used to better display text.

Allow comments on solutions (not just ideas)
Written by tehalynn the 23 Nov 09 at 01:29. New
Sometimes you want to comment on a specific solution. As far as I know, the only way to do this now is to mention a solution when commenting on the idea.

Solution #1: Add a comments section below each solution
Written by tehalynn the 23 Nov 09 at 01:29.
On the idea page (where you can see comments and add your own), show a comments section beneath each solution. The comments section starts collapsed, saying "4 comments on this solution" and possibly "add a comment". These links expand the solution's comments section, showing the comments and allowing you to add one.

Typing out links to bugs and ideas is tedious
Written by endolith the 1 Apr 09 at 07:02. New
Currently the only way to create links to other Brainstorm Ideas is to manually create "a href=" HTML tags. This is tedious.

Solution #1: "Idea #1234" should be presented as a link, like bug trackers
Written by endolith the 1 Apr 09 at 07:02.
If I type something like "Idea 1234" or "idea #1234" or "idea:1234" in a comment on Brainstorm, it should automatically become a link to that idea: Idea 1234

This would be exactly the same as in bug trackers like Bugzilla where "Bug 1234" becomes a link. "Bug 1234" should work, too, for that matter.

Launchpad or Bugzilla already have nice regexes that could be used for this, I'm sure.

Solution #1: Create tabled ideas classification
Written by peterro the 25 Nov 09 at 16:44.
Just the currently implemented classes on this ideatorrent are 'popular', 'ideas in development', and 'implemented ideas'. This would create a new class called 'tabled ideas'. This would be to weed out ideas that won't be implemented for whatever reason but not just delete them. The ideas could then be moved back out into the regular population at some future point as well.
